Diva Results

The 2010 Diva is now in the history books - another great job by Kelly MacWilliams and Shara Cody -well done girls!

Overall, the calibre of play was exceptional, with hard-fought matches in every division.

  • In the Newbie division - Hannah O'Brien pulls out the championship win in her first tournament with a victory over Angus-Mom Marlene MacInnis - Marlene even "took one in the ear" in her effort to pull out the victory - a very close match
  • Chrissie Terry closes the door on Laura Ready in the Newbie consolation final and takes some hardware back to Halifax
  • In the B/C Final, Sam Lawther and Eli McKenna battle it out again for the final - and once again Sam comes out on top!
  • In the B/C Consolation final, Rhonda MacLean pulls out the win, after a "very long day" of matches, beating Kathy Lanthois in five - great effort ladies!
  • In the A division final it was our reigning champion Mary Andrews, pulling out the victory in a hotly-contested 5-game battle with a tough Jane Hicks - what a match to finish the day !!!!
  • Also a great 5 game battle in A consolation between Moncton's champ Darlene Acton and Emily Terry of Halifax.  Darlene pulls it off, after a great series of rallies featuring lots of hard-hitting drives - super match girls.

The day finished up with the presentation of awards, and for some ... a sleepover at the Jinks residence!

Lots of fun, great squash, tasty food, and some creative signage from the boys made the tourney a success - congratulations to all participants - see you next year.  Check out the Photo Gallery in the right side panel for pictures of the event.

Diva - Day 1 Details

Wow - what a start!

The 2010 Diva is underway, and what a great night of squash.

"Newbies" Hannah O' Brien and Laura Ready started the night off with a great match - amazing play for girls who have just started the game - Hannah comes out on top - Laura moves on to the consolation round.

Fellow "Jinxed" newbies Kristen MacIntyre and Nina Donavan battled through a hard-fought 5 game match - with Kristen coming out on top - well done girls!

Sarah Langille struts her stuff with a strong performance, defeating a battling Calla Fraser in 3 games - welcome to Squash PEI girls!

As the night progresses, the play intensifies, with a stellar Ladies A match involving Shara Cody and Stephanie Charlton.  Terrific rallies and some amazing back-hand drops lead to the win for ex-Canada Games star Stephanie - welcome back Steph!

On the B/C front, the Oraniuk sisters are off to a flying start - with Sherri winning a 3-1 runfest with tough first timer Vanessa Foster and Sheila downing Diva Organizer Kelly MacWilliams in 4 games.   Sam Lawther continues to shine, stopping visitor Emma MacGillivray in 3 straight, and Nathalie Lefrancois pulls out a tough win over Kathy Lanthois in a well played match.

Speaking of sisters, the Terry family from Halifax made their second Island appearance of the squash season.  After a long, wind-blown drive across the fixed link, Emily Terry fell to Quincy Beck in 3 straight, and newbie sister Chrissie Terry lost in an epic battle with the "peanut butter cup" Queen Marlene MacInnis in a wonderful match that summed up the night ... hard work, super shots, great fun, lots of laughs and cheers - great match girls!
